CelluPanel: Cellulose based wall panels

Building of houses, offices and other buildings is currently done using materials such as stone, concrete and steel. This way of building is very invasive for the environment and climate. At present, lightweight structures are important in many industries. Carbon dioxide emission decreases when using lightweight structures.
Cellulose is a plant based glucose polymer. Cellulose from plants can be used to produce Nano cellulose fibers. These fibers can be used to produce new materials which are biocompatible and biodegradable. The goal of this project is to produce a cellulose based wall panel with a width of three meters. This foam based core will be sandwiched by two skin materials. Other criteria which are important are fire safety, acoustics and thermal conductivity. To accomplish this goal, first a protocol has to be developed for producing cellulose based materials and making a prototype with skin materials. After that, the method to produce the core material can be applied to produce a core material of three meters width. Next to this, tests will need to be conducted with the wall panels.
