Design a Lab-on-a-chip application for measuring CaCO3 in water

Context/current situation:

Drinking water companies use membrane filters to filter the water. These filters get contaminated by Calcium-Carbonate. Akvoregia is the company which produces these filters. They would like to know the concentration of calcium-carbonate in their system in order to make a smart system which adaptively flushes the system instead of every several minutes.

Problem statement:

Currently, there is no easy way to measure the concentration of CaCO3 in the water, so the drinking water companies use standard times for filtration and backflush. A lot of profit can be achieved if the system has a way to measure the concentration of CaCO3 in order to make the filtration system adaptive to the concentration.

Project or research goal:

Design a solution to integrate a lab-on-a-chip in the filtration system to measure the concentration of CaCO3 in the water.

Project results:

A prototype or/and proof of principle for detection of the concentration of CaCO3 in the water, and implementation in the filtration system.
