To enable labour productivity improvements in production lines, devices are increasingly equipped with vision systems for pick-and-place applications, quality controls, object localisations, object recognition and welding applications. Vision systems are extremely sensitive to unpredictable changes in the environment, such as lighting, shadow formation, orientation of products and optical variations in, for example, natural products. This client would like to investigate the applicability of vision systems in their steel processing machines, but currently lacks the knowledge to robustly introduce this in their machines.

In this project, you will design and realize a working vision setup which is able to determine the location and geometry of steel beams and attachments that have to be welded to the steel beams. This is necessary as these two items are welded together using fully automatic welding robots. In this project, vision integrated in a working demonstrator is important.
