Gas Sensing Systems
Animal diseases often are accompanied by the emission of speciﬁc volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which already at an early stage indicate the presence of the disease. Detection of these ‘compounds’ is therefore key to prevent animal diseases from spreading. Currently, various systems are available that can detect these VOCs and that work like the (human) olefactory system, therefore known under the name of electronics nose, or e-nose. In the Applied Nanotechnology group, we are developing, together with several partners, various (chip-based) gas sensing systems. The goal of this project is to advance the development of an integrated e-nose system.
