Cluster: Future Tourism

The current economic system is increasingly no longer working for businesses, people or the environment. We take resources from the ground to make products, which we use, and when we no longer want them throw them away. It’s called ‘Take-make-waste’. Disrupting the current economic system is needed. We have to transform all the elements of the ‘take-make-waste’ system: how we manage resources, how we make and use products as long as possible, how we reduce emission of waste and pollution and what we do with the materials afterwards. Only then are we able to create a thriving circular economy that can benefit everyone within the limits of our planet. As a consequence, the transition towards a circular economy requires a new balance between economy, technology and ecology. Hereby, collaboration between different stakeholders and disciplines on different levels is a prerequisite.

During this challenge, you’ll develop innovative scenarios from multiple perspective and disciplines that enable inner cities and the retail sector in the eastern part of the Netherlands to realize the transition towards a circular economy.
