PRALEiN 6, talking about the end of life

Bison code: L.28118 (for GT: L.28119)

This project is named PRALEiN, which derives from “talking about the end of life” (in Dutch) with elderly care recipients with a severe multiple (intellectual) disability. Healthcare professionals experience barriers, mainly due communication problems, in identifying the need for Care Planning for severe multiple-disabled recipients in palliative care. Recently the Proactive Care Planning Discussion Guide has been developed, which is applied to care recipients with dementia and forgetfulness. Proactive Care Planning focuses on early mapping of life goals and choices for now and in the future. It promotes the person’s own life choices and the quality of life. This project focusses on testing and finishing of a concept Discussion Guide tailored made to elderly care recipients with a severe multiple (intellectual) disability. Other SSS groups have developed an advisory report, a prototype (concept) and a manual in the last semesters. The concept Guide is aimed to discuss different themes related to end of life by healthcare professionals with care recipients with a severe multiple (intellectual) disability. The next step would be to test this prototype and to develop other products (toolbox PRALEiN). So, if you want to improve the communication about the end of life for people with a severe multiple (intellectual) disability, please sign up for this project!
